Prolotherapy for Chronic Joint Pain
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Tahir Gökdemir · 16 July 2026 · 3 min read
A significant portion of chronic musculoskeletal pain results from the weakening of the ligaments and tendons that support the joint. Prolotherapy focuses precisely on this point.
Working principle
In prolotherapy, proliferant (repair-stimulating) solutions are injected into damaged ligament and tendon regions. This controlled stimulus aims to strengthen the tissue by initiating the body's own healing process.
Who is it suitable for?
Low back and neck pain, knee osteoarthritis, shoulder and elbow problems, and sports injuries are the most common areas of application. Suitability for treatment is evaluated through examination and, if necessary, imaging results.
Sessions are usually planned 3-6 weeks apart, and most patients return to their daily lives on the same day.
